Effects of Sensory Immersion on Behavioural Indicators of Player Experience: Movement Synchrony and Controller Pressure

چکیده
In this paper we investigate the relation between immersion in a game and the player’s intensity of physical behaviours, in order to explore whether these behaviours can be reliably used as indicators of player experience. Immersion in the game was manipulated by means of screen size (20" vs 42" screen), and sound pressure level (60dBA vs 80 dBA), according to a 2 x 2 design. The effects of these manipulations on self-reported experience (including arousal and presence) and behavioural intensity (controller tilt and button pressure) were measured. Results showed that sound pressure level in particular strongly influenced both the self-reported measures of people's affective reactions and feelings of presence and the force people applied to the interface device. Results from controller tilt demonstrated that participants did move along with the dynamics of the game. The measure was, however not sensitive to either of the two manipulations of sensory immersion. In the paper the implications for the use of behavioural indicators of player experience in general and the feeling of presence are discussed. Author

The Effect of Combined Core Stability and Sensory-motor Exercises on Pain, Performance and Movement Fear in Retired Male Athletes with Non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain
Aims and background: Low back pain is one of the important causes of early retirement in athletes. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of combined core stability and sensory-motor exercises on pain, performance, and movement fear in retired male athletes with non-specific chronic low back pain. Materials and methods: This study was a semi-experimental, and its design was two-g...
متن کاملDoes Movement Recognition Precision Affect the Player Experience in Exertion Games?
A new generation of exertion game controllers are emerging with a high level of movement recognition precision which can be described as the ability to accurately discriminate between complex movements with regards to gesture recognition and in turn provide better on-screen feedback. These controllers offer the possibility to create a more realistic set of controls but they may require more com...
متن کاملVariable Structure Behavioural Controller for Multi-agent Systems
In previous papers authors have considered agents as inertia-less self driven particles and designed a flocking algorithm. Application of this algorithm to agents with considerable inertial characteristics needs a behavioural controller. The controller uses the local information and helps every agent to imitate the desired behaviour as a member of the flocking frame which covers the main is...
متن کاملFundamental Components of the Gameplay Experience: Analysing Immersion
This paper presents a gameplay experience model, assesses its potential as a tool for research and presents some directions for future work. The presented model was born from observations among game-playing children and their non-player parents, which directed us to have a closer look at the complex nature of gameplay experience. Our research led into a heuristic gameplay experience model that ...

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of sensory and movement speed manipulations on bimanual coordination dynamics. Here we compared to what extent the absence and or bias of different sensory modalities affect performance of coordination of movements. Methods: Fifteen physical education students of Shahid Beheshti University (aged 18-25 years) were partici...
